Course Description

In this comprehensive online course, you will explore advanced topics in anesthesia, with a focus on enhancing patient safety and care. The course is designed to provide Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) with the latest knowledge and skills necessary to excel in their practice.

Course Structure: The course is divided into 5 lessons, each covering a specific article topic. You will have the flexibility to review the articles and complete each lesson at your own pace. The course does not have to be completed in one session, allowing you to fit it into your busy schedule.

Assessment: After reviewing each lesson, you will have the opportunity to test your knowledge through a quiz. Each quiz will consist of five thought-provoking questions. You will have two attempts to achieve a minimum passing score of 80%. Failure to meet the passing score will result in ineligibility to receive the Continuing Education (CE) credit for the respective lesson.

  • Geriatric Care Requirement: ✅ Our program meets requirements
    • If your practice includes older adults or geriatric populations, you must complete at least 2 contact hours of CNE related to older adult or geriatric care every licensing period.
  • Nursing Jurisprudence & Ethics Requirement: ✅ Our program meets requirements
    • All nurses must complete 2 contact hours of CNE in nursing jurisprudence and ethics every third two-year licensing period.
    • The course must cover:
      • Texas Nursing Practice Act
      • Texas BON Rules (§217.11 – Standards of Nursing Practice)
      • Texas BON Position Statements
      • Principles of Nursing Ethics
      • Professional Boundaries
  • Human Trafficking Prevention Requirement: Free to take online on THHS website
    • If you provide direct patient care, you must complete a human trafficking prevention course approved by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) every licensing period.
  • Tick-Borne Disease Education (for APRNs): ✅ Our program meets requirements
    • If you are an APRN treating tick-borne diseases, you are encouraged (not required) to take CNE on tick-borne disease treatment.
    • The course should align with your role and population focus and cover a range of medical treatments for tick-borne diseases.
  • Additional Information:
  • APRNs must complete at least 20 contact hours in their area of practice within each two-year licensing period.
  • Acceptable CNE activities must be approved by a BON-recognized credentialing agency.
  • Non-acceptable CNE activities include BLS, CPR, and other basic skills courses.
